Nearby Flood Disaster

I got called out yesterday morning to go with the KWWA staff to assess the nearby flooding. They wanted me to document it with photos and my "stories". I knew the Mekong River was very high but at our office area we're high and dry. Not so for five of the villages we serve. I thought I was motoring across a big lake. Wrong! It was the flooded rice and corn fields of the local farmers. The water was creeping up to their raised houses literally step by step. We tied up at "the hill" and walked up to the shelter area. Families all along the way were building bamboo enclosures for their animals. They had lost all their crops so saving their animals was all the more critical. We met with village leaders and I sent an assessment to AJWS. The only good thing was now the little boys could catch little fish in what use to be their rice paddies!

I'm so glad that JoAnn reminded me of your blog. I've enjoyed reading about your experiences and thank you for sharing. I do hope the flood didn't get worse and the waters have gone down. The people are beautiful.
